Troubleshooting

My air fryer drawer won't close properly

Home Nura guide — category: Air Fryers

Severity: moderate

Diagnosis

An air fryer drawer that no longer closes properly is most often blocked by something in the way: too much food, lifted parchment paper or hardened grease on the runners. A warped drawer or basket is rarer but can follow knocks or heavy heat exposure.

Possible causes

  • Overfilled basket or food sticking up — the contents hit the heating element or housing and keep the drawer from sliding all the way in.
  • Lifted parchment paper or foil — it gets caught at the back or under the basket and jams the drawer.
  • Carbonized grease on the runners — hardened deposits add friction and keep the drawer from reaching the end of its travel.
  • Basket not clicked in, or a bent handle — the basket is not locked into the drawer and sticks out slightly past the edge.

Recommended steps

  1. 1Unplug the appliance and let it cool completely before touching the drawer, basket or the inside of the housing.
  2. 2Pull out the drawer and basket, remove any trapped paper, foil or food, and check nothing is left at the back of the cavity.
  3. 3Clean the runners, rims and opening with a non-abrasive sponge and hot soapy water, then dry everything thoroughly.
  4. 4Put the basket back in until it clicks, spread food flat below the fill line, and push the drawer closed gently.
  5. 5Never bypass the safety switch: the unit heats only when the drawer is fully closed, and that protection must stay working.

Repair or replace?

If the drawer is bent, the handle is broken or the housing is distorted so the drawer will not shut, repair is rarely reliable. A flaking non-stick coating is another reason to replace the appliance for hygiene and safety.

Frequently asked questions

Usually, yes, if the failure shows up during the warranty period and isn't caused by misuse. A product in the Air Fryers category bought new from an authorized retailer normally comes with a manufacturer's warranty: check its length in the manual or on the brand's website. Consumer protection rules also vary by province and territory, so keep your proof of purchase.

If you're still within the store's return window, a return or exchange is usually the fastest fix. After that, the manufacturer's warranty takes over: its customer support can arrange a repair or a replacement. Even outside the warranty, the manufacturer can often repair the device for a fee. Either way, keep your proof of purchase.

Our public methodology lowers the Nura Score /10 of any model in the Air Fryers category whose recurring failures are documented in owner reviews. A model that breaks down too often never tops our rankings, whatever the brand.

Generally, yes. Routine maintenance, such as cleaning, replacing a gasket or recalibrating, is part of normal use and doesn't usually affect your warranty. Irreversible changes to the hardware are what can cause problems. For a product in the Air Fryers category, stick to the steps described in the manufacturer's manual and read the warranty terms before going any further.

When a product fails in its first few months of normal use, the cause is usually a manufacturing defect. Contact the seller or the manufacturer with your proof of purchase and a description of the symptom: for a model in the Air Fryers category that is still under warranty, this is the typical case for a free repair or replacement. Warranty terms vary by brand, so read yours.
