My air fryer won't heat up anymore — what should I do?
Home Nura guide — category: Air Fryers
Diagnosis
An air fryer that stops heating usually has a power supply problem, a basket that isn't latched, or a tripped thermal cut-out. If the fan runs but the air stays cold, the heating element or its thermal fuse is the most likely culprit.
Possible causes
- Basket not fully latched — a safety switch cuts the heating until the drawer is pushed all the way in.
- Faulty outlet or extension cord — the unit barely powers up, or not at all, on a worn or overloaded power bar.
- Thermal cut-out tripped — after overheating caused by grease buildup or blocked vents, the safety fuse switches the heating off.
- Failed heating element or temperature sensor — the fan spins and the display lights up, but the air stays cool or only lukewarm.
Recommended steps
- 1Unplug the unit, let it cool, then plug it straight into a wall outlet you have tested with another appliance, without an extension cord.
- 2Take the drawer out and slide it back in firmly until it clicks, checking that no crumbs are jamming the closing switch.
- 3Clean the bottom of the drawer, the rack and the air vents, because built-up grease can trip the thermal protection.
- 4Leave the unit unplugged for an hour so any protection can reset, then run an empty cycle at 180°C (350°F) for ten minutes.
- 5If the fan runs but the air stays cold, stop there: do not open the casing, and contact the retailer or manufacturer about the warranty.
Repair or replace?
If the element or thermal fuse has failed and the fryer is out of warranty, the repair cost often outweighs the value of a new model. Replace it too if the cable is damaged, the housing overheats abnormally, or you notice a burning smell.

Frequently asked questions
Usually, yes, if the failure shows up during the warranty period and isn't caused by misuse. A product in the Air Fryers category bought new from an authorized retailer normally comes with a manufacturer's warranty: check its length in the manual or on the brand's website. Consumer protection rules also vary by province and territory, so keep your proof of purchase.
If you're still within the store's return window, a return or exchange is usually the fastest fix. After that, the manufacturer's warranty takes over: its customer support can arrange a repair or a replacement. Even outside the warranty, the manufacturer can often repair the device for a fee. Either way, keep your proof of purchase.
Our public methodology lowers the Nura Score /10 of any model in the Air Fryers category whose recurring failures are documented in owner reviews. A model that breaks down too often never tops our rankings, whatever the brand.
Generally, yes. Routine maintenance, such as cleaning, replacing a gasket or recalibrating, is part of normal use and doesn't usually affect your warranty. Irreversible changes to the hardware are what can cause problems. For a product in the Air Fryers category, stick to the steps described in the manufacturer's manual and read the warranty terms before going any further.
When a product fails in its first few months of normal use, the cause is usually a manufacturing defect. Contact the seller or the manufacturer with your proof of purchase and a description of the symptom: for a model in the Air Fryers category that is still under warranty, this is the typical case for a free repair or replacement. Warranty terms vary by brand, so read yours.
