Best Vacuums 2026: Cordless Stick, Upright and Robot Vacuums Compared

For most homes with a mix of hard floors and area rugs, a cordless stick vacuum is the easiest everyday tool. A corded upright still makes sense when most of your floors are carpet, and a robot vacuum keeps dust, crumbs and pet hair in check between deeper cleans, as long as it fits under your furniture. We shortlisted six models sold on Amazon, from budget to premium, and took every spec from the manufacturer's spec pages and manuals for the versions sold here. We cross-checked each Amazon listing and read owner reviews. We do not test products ourselves.

Will a robot vacuum or robot mop fit under your furniture?

Measure the gap under your lowest sofa, bed or cabinet, in centimetres (or inches). We compare it with each robot’s height as published by its manufacturer, in millimetres.

From the floor to the underside of the frame, at its lowest point.

Enter your clearance to see which robots fit.

Heights are the manufacturers’ figures in millimetres, used as published: your choice of unit never changes them. Leave a little margin for thick rugs.

Stick, upright or robot: which type fits your home

Three designs cover everyday dry vacuuming. They overlap, but each has a clear strength.

  • Cordless stick vacuum: grab-and-go cleaning on hard floors, area rugs and stairs, and most convert to a handheld for the car or the couch. Run time and bin size are the limits.
  • Corded upright vacuum: no battery to run down and a bigger dust cup, which suits wall-to-wall carpet and larger homes. It's heavier, and you work around the cord.
  • Robot vacuum: daily upkeep on its own, which helps a lot with pet hair. It can't do stairs or upholstery, and it only cleans under furniture it fits beneath.

Many households end up with two: a robot for daily upkeep and a stick or upright for weekly deep cleaning, stairs and furniture.

Carpet-heavy homes: what actually matters

On carpet, the brushroll does as much work as the suction. Look for a motorized floor head, and check what the manufacturer says about carpet type before you buy.

  • Pile height: Levoit says the LVAC-200 is for hard floors and short-pile carpet, not high-pile carpet. eufy rates the 11S MAX for hard floors up to medium-pile carpet.
  • Cleaning path: a wider head means fewer passes in a big living room. Shark lists 23.6 cm (9¼ in.) for the NV352 upright and 21 cm (8¼ in.) for the PowerDetect Speed stick.
  • Bin size: the NV352's 1.04 L dust cup holds more than any stick here (0.47 L to 0.77 L), so you stop less often in a carpeted house.
  • Automatic power: the Dyson V15 Detect, the Shark PowerDetect Speed and the Roborock Q7 L5 all detect carpet and raise power on their own, which saves battery on hard floors.

Pet hair: brushes that don't tangle

Hair wrapped around the brushroll is one of the most common complaints in owner reviews. Each pick handles it differently:

  • Dyson's Digital Motorbar head on the V15 Detect has de-tangling vanes that clear long hair and pet hair from the brush bar as you clean.
  • Shark's TurboPro Detect nozzle on the PowerDetect Speed uses a self-cleaning brushroll.
  • Levoit uses an anti-tangle roller on the LVAC-200, but notes that hair can still wrap if you pick up a lot at once, so check the brush regularly.
  • Roborock pairs an anti-tangle main brush with an anti-tangle side brush on the Q7 L5.

Shedding pets also leave fine dander, so filtration matters too (see below).

Robot vacuums: measure under your furniture first

A robot only cleans under a sofa, bed or dresser if it fits. Measure each gap at its lowest point, from the floor to the underside of the frame or rail, and measure on the rug if the furniture sits on one.

  • Use the manufacturer's height. eufy says the 11S MAX can pass under a gap of 73 mm (2.87 in.). Roborock lists the Q7 L5 at 99 mm (3.89 in.) overall.
  • Watch the LiDAR turret. Robots that map with LiDAR, like the Q7 L5, carry the laser sensor in a small turret on top, which usually sets their overall height. Roborock gives one overall figure and doesn't list the turret separately.
  • Leave a margin. Sofa webbing sags and cushions compress, so a gap that matches the robot's height to the millimetre can still trap it.
  • Slim or smart. The 11S MAX has no LiDAR turret, which keeps it slim, and no mapping or app: you run it with a remote. The Q7 L5 maps your floors and lets you skip areas in the app, but needs about 2.6 cm (1 in.) more clearance.

Run time and batteries: read the fine print

Advertised run times usually come from the most economical mode, often with a non-motorized tool, so expect less with the main floor head on carpet.

  • Shark rates the PowerDetect Speed at up to 60 minutes in ECO mode with a non-motorized tool.
  • Levoit gives the LVAC-200 50 minutes in Eco mode with the crevice or pet tool, but 30 minutes with the vacuum head.
  • Dyson quotes up to 60 minutes for the V15 Detect and says actual run time varies with the power mode and attachments.
  • The Dyson and the Levoit both use a removable battery, so a spare can extend a session or replace a worn battery.

Charging takes a while: 4.5 hours for the Dyson, 4 to 5 hours for the Levoit and 6 hours for the Shark. Keep the charger indoors: Levoit specifies charging the LVAC-200 between 4°C and 40°C, so an unheated garage in winter is out.

Filtration and allergies

If someone in your home has seasonal allergies or reacts to pet dander, filtration matters as much as suction.

  • Shark specifies HEPA filtration on the PowerDetect Speed and washable HEPA and foam filters on the NV352, both with its Anti-Allergen Complete Seal.
  • Dyson lists filtration of 99.99% of particles down to 0.3 microns for the V15 Detect.
  • Levoit's five-stage system captures 99.9% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, but Levoit states that the LVAC-200 has no HEPA filter.
  • Dust can escape when you empty the bin. Dyson's ejection mechanism drives debris into the garbage in one action, so you don't touch it.

Corded uprights and your outlets

Shark rates the NV352 upright at 120 V, 10 A and 1,200 W, with a 7.6 m cord and a 1.5 m hose. A standard 15 A household circuit delivers up to 1,800 W, so avoid running a corded vacuum on the same circuit as a space heater or another big load. Cordless sticks and robots only draw power from the outlet while they charge.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Buying a robot before measuring under your sofa, bed and dressers.
  • Comparing run times blindly: check which mode and which tool each figure was measured with.
  • Expecting a light stick to deep clean thick carpet: read the manufacturer's carpet rating first.
  • Comparing suction numbers across brands: air watts (AW) on a stick and pascals (Pa) on a robot are measured differently and don't compare directly.
  • Ignoring the brushroll: even anti-tangle designs need a quick check now and then, especially with long hair or pets.

Frequently asked questions

For area rugs and low- to medium-pile carpet, a stick with a motorized floor head usually handles everyday cleaning. For wall-to-wall carpet throughout the house, a corded upright like the Shark NV352 gives you a bigger dust cup and no battery limit. Check the manufacturer's carpet rating: Levoit, for example, doesn't recommend the LVAC-200 for high-pile carpet.

At least its own height, plus a small margin. eufy says the 11S MAX passes under a gap of 73 mm (2.87 in.), and Roborock lists the Q7 L5 at 99 mm (3.89 in.). Measure at the lowest point of the frame, on the rug if there is one.

The laser sensor that maps your home usually sits in a small turret on top. The eufy 11S MAX has no turret, so it fits under lower furniture, but it can't build a map.

Not everyone does, but it's worth it if someone in your home has seasonal allergies or reacts to pet dander. Look for a sealed system as well as the filter. Shark lists HEPA filtration and its Anti-Allergen Complete Seal on the PowerDetect Speed and the NV352.

Rarely. A robot keeps floors tidy between cleans, but it can't do stairs, upholstery or spots it can't reach. Most households keep a stick or upright for those jobs.

It depends on the battery and how you use it. Levoit says the LVAC-200 battery keeps more than 80% of its capacity after 500 charge cycles at room temperature. A removable battery, as on the Dyson V15 Detect and the Levoit, can be replaced without replacing the vacuum.

Not if the garage gets cold. Levoit specifies charging the LVAC-200 between 4°C and 40°C, and other brands give similar ranges in their manuals. Keep the charger or dock indoors.
