Best Wet Dry Vacuums, Steam Mops and Robot Mops for Hard Floors 2026

Sticky spills under the kitchen table, muddy paw prints and the grit and slush tracked in all winter need a machine that washes, not just one that vacuums. This guide compares six hard-floor machines sold on Amazon: three wet dry vacuums, two steam mops and a robot vacuum and mop. Every spec and every floor rule comes from the manufacturers' Canadian websites and user guides; we don't test products ourselves. One rule before you start: these machines are made for sealed hard floors, not for carpet or upholstery.

Wet dry vacuum, steam mop or robot: which one do you need?

Wet dry vacuums (floor washers) vacuum and wash in one pass: Shark and BISSELL say their models vacuum and mop at the same time. A spinning brush roll spreads clean water and solution from one tank and pulls the dirty water back into a separate tank. They're the strongest choice for sticky spills and dried-on food. Corded models run as long as you need; cordless ones trade runtime for freedom of movement.

Steam mops heat water into steam and push it through a microfibre pad or a brush roll, usually with water alone. They suit tile, stone and other durable sealed floors, but manufacturers rule out more floor types for steam than for wet dry vacuums (see the next section).

Robot vacuum and mop combos keep sealed floors fresh between deeper cleans, and on models like the one in this guide, the dock washes and dries the mop for you. The robot carries very little water, though, so a big sticky spill is still a job for a wet dry vacuum.

Check your floor first: what the manufacturers allow

The wet dry vacuums and steam mops in this guide are approved only for sealed hard floors. Here's what the makers' Canadian websites and user guides say.

  • Unsealed or water-sensitive wood: BISSELL says not to use the CrossWave HydroSteam Plus on unsealed hardwood, and its PowerSteamer guide rules out unsealed floors. Shark and Tineco list sealed wood only. ECOVACS gives no floor-by-floor list on its Canadian product page, so follow your flooring maker's advice for the robot too.
  • Laminate: Shark lists it for the HydroVac XL and the SteamPickup, and BISSELL lists it for both of its models. Tineco's floor list for the Floor One (vinyl, tile and sealed wood) doesn't mention laminate, so check your flooring's care instructions first.
  • Vinyl, vinyl plank (LVP) and linoleum: Tineco lists vinyl for the Floor One, BISSELL lists linoleum for the CrossWave HydroSteam Plus and Shark lists vinyl for the SteamPickup. BISSELL says its PowerSteamer steam mop is not intended for vinyl, vinyl plank or linoleum.
  • Waxed or polished floors: BISSELL warns that steam can reduce the gloss on waxed and some unwaxed floors, and says not to use the PowerSteamer on wax-polished floors.

Your flooring maker has the last word. Read its care instructions and warranty terms, test a hidden spot first and stop if you see any damage, as BISSELL also advises in its user guide.

Not for carpet or upholstery: use a carpet cleaner instead

These are hard-floor machines, not carpet or upholstery cleaners. Tineco limits the Floor One S7 Artist to non-carpeted floors, and its Canadian FAQ for the Floor One S5 answers a flat “No” when asked whether the Floor One can clean carpet. Some wet dry vacuums can refresh an area rug: Shark says the HydroVac XL removes surface dirt and odours from area rugs, and the BISSELL CrossWave HydroSteam Plus has an area rug mode. BISSELL adds that you should check the rug's tag, test a hidden spot for colourfastness and skip silk or delicate rugs.

For pet accidents, stains in wall-to-wall carpet, carpeted stairs, the couch or car seats, you need a carpet and upholstery cleaner that pushes water and formula into the fibres and pulls it back out. See our stains, pets and carpets guide.

What to compare

  • Corded or cordless. The Shark HydroVac XL and the BISSELL CrossWave HydroSteam Plus plug into an outlet and run as long as you need. The Tineco Floor One S7 Artist runs on a battery: up to 50 minutes, according to Tineco's spec table.
  • Tank sizes. A bigger clean water tank means fewer refills on large floors. Tineco lists 1 L clean and 0.75 L dirty for the S7 Artist; BISSELL lists about 830 mL (28 oz) clean and about 500 mL (17 oz) dirty for the CrossWave HydroSteam Plus.
  • Self-cleaning. All three wet dry vacuums flush their brush roll on the dock or tray after use. Tineco then dries it with 85°C hot air.
  • Steam or no steam. The BISSELL CrossWave HydroSteam Plus adds steam to the wash. The Shark SteamPickup is a steam mop that also picks up debris. The BISSELL PowerSteamer doubles as a handheld steamer for grout, counters and sinks.
  • Weight. The steam mops are the lightest: 2.8 kg (6.1 lb) for the BISSELL PowerSteamer and 3.18 kg (7 lb) for the Shark SteamPickup. The Tineco S7 Artist is listed at 5.3 kg (11.7 lb) and the BISSELL CrossWave HydroSteam Plus at 5.7 kg (12.5 lb).
  • Warranty. Shark Canada lists 3 years for the HydroVac XL and 1 year for the SteamPickup. BISSELL Canada links a 3-year limited warranty for the CrossWave HydroSteam Plus and a 2-year limited warranty for the PowerSteamer. Tineco Canada lists 2 years for the Floor One S7 Artist, accessories excluded.

Robot mops: check the height and the carpet lift

Measure the gap under your sofa, bed and cabinets at its lowest point, then compare it with the robot's full height. ECOVACS lists the DEEBOT T90 PRO OMNI at 95 mm (3Âľ in.) tall and says its navigation sensor is embedded in the body.

Look at what the robot does on carpet, too. The T90 PRO OMNI lifts its roller mop by 15 mm (about ½ in.) when it meets carpet, and its dock washes the roller with water heated up to 75°C, then dries it with hot air.

Keep a robot for upkeep, not for big spills: ECOVACS lists the robot's onboard water tank at 110 mL.

Water, formulas and upkeep

  • Use the maker's formula. BISSELL says to use only BISSELL cleaning products in the CrossWave HydroSteam to avoid internal damage. Tineco's Canadian Floor One FAQs advise against third-party solutions, which can foam up and fill the dirty water tank, and against bleach.
  • Use distilled water for steam. BISSELL recommends distilled water instead of tap water in the PowerSteamer for the best steam performance.
  • Never run a floor washer dry. Tineco's Canadian FAQ for the Floor One S7 Pro warns that running it without water damages the brush roll.
  • Clean up after every session. Empty the dirty water tank, run the self-cleaning cycle and let the brush roll dry to keep odours away.

Frequently asked questions

Only if it's sealed and your flooring maker allows it. Shark, Tineco and BISSELL list sealed wood for their machines, and BISSELL says not to use the CrossWave HydroSteam Plus on unsealed hardwood. Check your floor's care instructions and warranty, and test a hidden spot first.

It depends on the model. BISSELL says its PowerSteamer is not intended for vinyl, vinyl plank or linoleum, while Shark lists vinyl for the SteamPickup SD201C. Your flooring maker's care instructions decide, so check them before you steam.

No. They're built for sealed hard floors. Some wet dry vacuums can refresh an area rug, but stains in carpet, on stairs or on upholstery call for a carpet and upholstery cleaner. See our stains, pets and carpets guide.

Yes. Shark lists 120 V for the HydroVac XL WD101C and the SteamPickup SD201C. BISSELL's Canadian user guides say the CrossWave HydroSteam Plus 3515B and the PowerSteamer 2685B are designed for a nominal 120 V circuit and come with a grounded plug.

Usually not with a wet dry vacuum: Shark and BISSELL say theirs vacuum and mop at the same time. With a pad-style steam mop, yes: BISSELL says to sweep or vacuum thoroughly before you steam. Shark designs the SteamPickup to pick up debris as it steams, so no pre-sweep is needed.

For daily upkeep on sealed floors, it can carry much of the load. But the robot carries little water (ECOVACS lists 110 mL for the T90 PRO OMNI), so a big sticky spill or a muddy entryway is still a job for a wet dry vacuum.
