My window-cleaning robot keeps losing grip and nearly falls

Home Nura guide — category: Window Cleaning Robots

Severity: critical

Diagnosis

A window-cleaning robot that loses grip has usually lost suction: a dirty pane or base, a worn seal, a weak pump battery or an air leak. Never use it without its safety rope attached, and take it off the glass as soon as the suction alarm sounds.

Possible causes

  • Dirty pane or base — dust and grease keep the sealing edge from gripping, and suction drops quickly.
  • Worn or warped suction seal — air escapes at the edges and the unit gives a regular warning beep.
  • Weak backup or pump battery — after a power outage or an incomplete charge, suction fades gradually.
  • Frame, window seal or textured surface — the robot rides over a ridge, loses the seal, then slips or stalls.
  • Saturated cloth or slippery cleaning fluid — the surface becomes slick and the robot skids instead of gripping.

Recommended steps

  1. 1Always tie the safety rope to a solid anchor point indoors before placing the robot, and never run it without the rope.
  2. 2Fully charge the robot and its backup unit, then check the suction starts up before you let it go on the glass.
  3. 3Clean the glass first and wipe the base and suction seal with a damp lint-free cloth, then dry them.
  4. 4Replace the cleaning cloth as soon as it is saturated or dirty, and avoid too much cleaner, which makes the glass slippery.
  5. 5Take the robot off the glass as soon as it beeps or loses suction, and never lean out of a high window to retrieve it.
  6. 6If the seal is damaged, install the original part, and do not use the robot on high-level outside glass until suction is reliable.

Repair or replace?

If suction stays weak with a new seal, a clean unit and a charged battery, the pump or battery is failing and the risk of a fall is real. It is safer to replace the appliance than to keep using it.

Frequently asked questions

Usually, yes, if the failure shows up during the warranty period and isn't caused by misuse. A product in the Window Cleaning Robots category bought new from an authorized retailer normally comes with a manufacturer's warranty: check its length in the manual or on the brand's website. Consumer protection rules also vary by province and territory, so keep your proof of purchase.

If you're still within the store's return window, a return or exchange is usually the fastest fix. After that, the manufacturer's warranty takes over: its customer support can arrange a repair or a replacement. Even outside the warranty, the manufacturer can often repair the device for a fee. Either way, keep your proof of purchase.

Our public methodology lowers the Nura Score /10 of any model in the Window Cleaning Robots category whose recurring failures are documented in owner reviews. A model that breaks down too often never tops our rankings, whatever the brand.

Generally, yes. Routine maintenance, such as cleaning, replacing a gasket or recalibrating, is part of normal use and doesn't usually affect your warranty. Irreversible changes to the hardware are what can cause problems. For a product in the Window Cleaning Robots category, stick to the steps described in the manufacturer's manual and read the warranty terms before going any further.

When a product fails in its first few months of normal use, the cause is usually a manufacturing defect. Contact the seller or the manufacturer with your proof of purchase and a description of the symptom: for a model in the Window Cleaning Robots category that is still under warranty, this is the typical case for a free repair or replacement. Warranty terms vary by brand, so read yours.
