The clean water tank on my wet dry vacuum leaks while docked

Home Nura guide — category: Robot Vacuum & Mop Combos

Severity: moderate

Diagnosis

A clean water tank that leaks while the machine is charging is most often caused by a worn or misplaced seal or cap, or a cracked tank. Take the tank off the dock, dry everything and check the seals and any cracks before charging again.

Possible causes

  • Worn, shifted or dirty cap or valve seal — water seeps from the cap or the outlet valve.
  • Tank not clicked fully onto the dock — water runs out through the connector instead of feeding the brush.
  • Cracked or warped tank — water leaks along a fine line, often after a knock or from using water that was too hot.
  • Tank overfilled or filled with a foaming product — pressure and suds force water out through the vent holes.
  • Outlet valve blocked by limescale or residue — it no longer closes fully and drips even when idle.

Recommended steps

  1. 1Switch the machine off, unplug the charging dock and mop up water around the electrical contacts before doing anything else.
  2. 2Remove the tank, empty it completely and dry it; only put the machine back on the dock once the contacts and dock are dry.
  3. 3Examine the cap and valve seal, wipe them with a soft cloth and press them back flat into their seat.
  4. 4Hold the tank up to the light to look for cracks, then test it filled over a sink without tilting it.
  5. 5Fill with cold or lukewarm water only, up to the maximum mark, and no foaming product other than the one the manufacturer recommends.
  6. 6If the seal is damaged or the tank cracked, order the original part; do not use glue on the water tank of an electrical appliance.

Repair or replace?

If the tank is cracked and the part is no longer sold, or water has gotten into the dock or electronics area, the machine becomes unsafe to use. Replacing the whole unit is then wiser than a makeshift repair.

Frequently asked questions

Usually, yes, if the failure shows up during the warranty period and isn't caused by misuse. A product in the Robot Vacuum & Mop Combos category bought new from an authorized retailer normally comes with a manufacturer's warranty: check its length in the manual or on the brand's website. Consumer protection rules also vary by province and territory, so keep your proof of purchase.

If you're still within the store's return window, a return or exchange is usually the fastest fix. After that, the manufacturer's warranty takes over: its customer support can arrange a repair or a replacement. Even outside the warranty, the manufacturer can often repair the device for a fee. Either way, keep your proof of purchase.

Our public methodology lowers the Nura Score /10 of any model in the Robot Vacuum & Mop Combos category whose recurring failures are documented in owner reviews. A model that breaks down too often never tops our rankings, whatever the brand.

Generally, yes. Routine maintenance, such as cleaning, replacing a gasket or recalibrating, is part of normal use and doesn't usually affect your warranty. Irreversible changes to the hardware are what can cause problems. For a product in the Robot Vacuum & Mop Combos category, stick to the steps described in the manufacturer's manual and read the warranty terms before going any further.

When a product fails in its first few months of normal use, the cause is usually a manufacturing defect. Contact the seller or the manufacturer with your proof of purchase and a description of the symptom: for a model in the Robot Vacuum & Mop Combos category that is still under warranty, this is the typical case for a free repair or replacement. Warranty terms vary by brand, so read yours.
