My window cleaning robot leaves a streak down the middle of the glass on every pass
Home Nura guide — category: Window Cleaning Robots
Diagnosis
A streak down the middle of the glass is almost always caused by a dirty cleaning pad or grime collecting along the robot's center line. The robot drags dust inward, then smears it back and forth on every pass instead of pushing it out to the edges.
Possible causes
- Pad saturated with dirt — it wipes poorly at the robot's center, where pressure is highest, and leaves a dark band behind.
- Pad attached loosely or creased — a fold leaves a sharp line that repeats in exactly the same spot on every pass.
- Very dusty glass to start with — the robot gathers the dirt into a ridge down the middle and keeps running over it without picking it up.
- Too little cleaning solution — the pad dries out mid-run and pushes the dirt around instead of dissolving it.
What to do
- 1Turn off and unplug the robot, remove the pad and hand-wash it in warm, soapy water without fabric softener, then let it dry completely before reusing it.
- 2Make sure the pad is stretched tight and flat across its full width, following the diagram in the manual.
- 3Wipe the edges and frame of the window with a damp cloth first, so the robot doesn't carry dust and grit into the middle.
- 4Spray the manufacturer's recommended cleaner evenly over the pad or glass without soaking it, so the robot can still grip properly.
- 5Run a second cycle in the crisscross cleaning pattern, then clean the drive tracks and the suction seal with a damp cotton swab.
Repair or replace?
If the pad is worn out and the streak is still there after a thorough cleaning, it's the pad that needs replacing, not the robot. Only replace the robot if suction keeps weakening or the tracks slip, because a repair usually costs more than buying a new one.

Frequently asked questions
Check the manufacturer's warranty first: how long it lasts and what it covers vary by brand and model, so read the terms for yours and keep your proof of purchase. If you bought it new in the EU, a two-year legal guarantee also applies (Directive (EU) 2019/771), covering defects present at delivery, whenever they first show up.
If you're still within the seller's return window, a return or exchange is usually the fastest fix. After that, go through the manufacturer's support team: it handles warranty claims and can often repair the unit even after the warranty has run out. Either way, keep your proof of purchase.
Our public methodology lowers the Nura Score /10 of any model in our Window Cleaning Robots guide whose recurring failures show up in owner reviews. A model that breaks down too often never makes it to the top, whatever the brand.
Generally, yes, if you stick to routine maintenance: cleaning, replacing a gasket, recalibrating. Irreversible changes to the hardware are what can cause problems, so read your warranty terms before you open anything up. Anything the manufacturer's manual walks you through is the safe zone.
Your proof of purchase, the exact model name and a record of the symptom: photos, a short video, the sound it makes and any error code. Note when the problem started and what you've already tried. With all that in hand, support can pin down the problem much faster.
