I lost the remote for my smart fan — what can I do?
Home Nura guide — category: Smart Fans
Diagnosis
Losing the remote for a smart fan is rarely a real problem, because most models can also be controlled from the app, the buttons on the fan or a voice assistant. The quickest fix is to use the manufacturer's app, then order a replacement remote if you still want one.
Possible causes
- Remote just misplaced — the fan still responds to the buttons on its base or head, which shows the fan itself works.
- Dead or missing batteries — the remote you found does nothing and its indicator light stays off when you press a button.
- Fan never connected to Wi-Fi — the app can't see it, because only the infrared or radio remote has ever been used.
- Radio remote lost its pairing — after a power outage, the fan ignores the remote you found until it's paired again.
What to do
- 1Check under cushions, in drawers and around the fan first, then try the buttons on the fan to confirm that it works.
- 2Unplug the fan, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in, then follow the manual to turn on Wi-Fi pairing if yours is a smart model.
- 3Install the manufacturer's app, create an account and add the fan on a 2.4 GHz network; you can then set the speed, oscillation and timer.
- 4If the fan supports it, link it to a voice assistant or a smart plug so you can turn it on and off without the remote.
- 5Use a universal remote or a smart IR blaster if your fan uses infrared, and choose the code that matches the brand.
- 6For a radio-controlled model, order the exact replacement remote listed on the rating label, then repeat the pairing steps in the manual.
Repair or replace?
Replacing the fan only makes sense if the original remote is no longer sold and no button, app or voice assistant can control it. Otherwise, a spare remote costs far less than a new fan.

Frequently asked questions
Check the manufacturer's warranty first: how long it lasts and what it covers vary by brand and model, so read the terms for yours and keep your proof of purchase. If you bought it new in the EU, a two-year legal guarantee also applies (Directive (EU) 2019/771), covering defects present at delivery, whenever they first show up.
If you're still within the seller's return window, a return or exchange is usually the fastest fix. After that, go through the manufacturer's support team: it handles warranty claims and can often repair the unit even after the warranty has run out. Either way, keep your proof of purchase.
Our public methodology lowers the Nura Score /10 of any model in our Smart Fans guide whose recurring failures show up in owner reviews. A model that breaks down too often never makes it to the top, whatever the brand.
Generally, yes, if you stick to routine maintenance: cleaning, replacing a gasket, recalibrating. Irreversible changes to the hardware are what can cause problems, so read your warranty terms before you open anything up. Anything the manufacturer's manual walks you through is the safe zone.
Your proof of purchase, the exact model name and a record of the symptom: photos, a short video, the sound it makes and any error code. Note when the problem started and what you've already tried. With all that in hand, support can pin down the problem much faster.
