The outdoor sensor on my weather station no longer reports data
Home Nura guide — category Smart Weather Stations
Diagnosis
An outdoor weather-station sensor that stops reporting usually has weak batteries, especially in cold weather, or has lost its radio link with the main console. Fitting fresh batteries and re-syncing the pair fixes most cases.
Possible causes
- Weak sensor batteries — cold further reduces their capacity, so the transmitter stops sending or sends too weakly.
- Radio link lost after a power gap — the sensor and console are no longer paired after a battery change or outage.
- Distance, walls or metal obstacles — the radio signal is attenuated between sensor and console and no longer arrives.
- Moisture or corrosion in the battery compartment — contacts oxidise and the power supply becomes intermittent or fails.
Recommended procedure
- 1Bring the sensor close to the console, a few metres apart with no obstacles, to check data returns when range is not a factor.
- 2Replace the sensor batteries with fresh, good-quality ones of the type the manual specifies, observing the correct polarity.
- 3Remove the batteries from both console and sensor, then insert the sensor's first and the console's afterwards to restart pairing.
- 4Check the channel or ID setting if adjustable, and move the console away from routers, televisions and other sources of radio interference.
- 5Dry and clean the battery contacts, then mount the sensor sheltered from direct rain and away from large metal surfaces.
Repair or replace?
If water has entered the sensor, the board is corroded or the link never re-establishes even with new batteries, repair is unrealistic. If a replacement sensor is unobtainable for an older station, replacing the whole set makes sense.

Frequently asked questions
In Europe, any smart weather stations bought new from an official reseller benefits from a legal conformity guarantee of at least two years (Directive (EU) 2019/771). This guarantee covers defects present at delivery, whenever they first manifest.
You can pick: European law puts the legal guarantee on the seller, not the manufacturer. In practice, a store return is usually faster, but the manufacturer can repair if the damage is out of warranty. Keep proof of purchase.
Our public methodology adds a Nura Score /10 penalty to any smart weather stations whose recurring failures are documented in European user feedback. A model that breaks too often never tops our charts, brand notwithstanding.
Yes, within the limits of the European "right to repair": routine maintenance tasks (cleaning, gasket replacement, calibration) never void the legal warranty. Only irreversible hardware modifications can be a problem. For a smart weather stations, any handling documented in the manufacturer's manual stays covered.
The directive imposes a two-year legal conformity guarantee, with a presumption of pre-existing defect during the first twelve months — the burden of proof is on the seller. For a smart weather stations that breaks in that window, you're entitled to free repair or replacement, no strings attached on typical use.
